It's back to books for local students

TRI-CITY AREA — Is that ringing in your ears merely the sound of school bells?

Ready or not, area schools will open their doors this week to thousands of local youngsters.

Classes begin in Almont, Capac and Imlay City on Tuesday, Sept. 2. Dryden students will benefit from an extra summer vacation day, beginning school on Wednesday, Sept. 3.

The following class schedules have been provided by the respective school districts.

In Almont, morning kindergarten students attend classes from 8:41 a.m.-

11:50 a.m., with afternoon

kindergarteners in session from 12:45 p.m.-3:53 p.m. Students in grades 1-2 attend classes from 8:41 a.m.-3:53 p.m.

Almont Elementary students (grades 3-5) are in class from 8:25 a.m.-3:37 p.m.

Students at Almont Middle School (grades 6-8) go to school from 7:40 a.m.-2:35 p.m. An open house at the middle school is scheduled for Wed., Aug. 27 from 6-8 p.m.

Classes for Almont High School students (grades 9-12) run from 7:30 a.m-2:25 p.m.

The Almont school district has adopted a trimester calendar for the 2008-09 school year. The end of the first trimester is Nov. 26. The second trimester ends on March 5, 2009, and the third trimester concludes on June 10, 2009.

In Capac, morning kindergarteners attend school from 8:03 a.m.-11:10 a.m., while afternoon kindergarten students go from 11:43 a.m.-2:50 p.m.

Students at Capac Elementary School (grades K-4) attend classes from 8:03 a.m.-2:50 p.m.

Middle school (Grades 5-7) students go to class from 7:55 a.m.-2:42 p.m. An orientation session is scheduled from 5-7 p.m. today (Wed., Aug. 27).

At Capac High School (grades 8-12), classes run from 8:05 a.m.-2:52 p.m. Students at Crossroads High School share the same session times as the high school.

In Dryden, classes begin Wednesday at the elementary school (grades K-6). Students will attend from 8:35 a.m.-3:35 p.m. Parents and children are reminded of the annual PTA-sponsored Ice Cream Social, to take place on Tuesday, Sept. 2 from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Dryden High School students (grades 7-12) will attend classes from 7:15 a.m.-2:21 p.m.

In Imlay City, classes at Weston Elementary School (grades K-2) run from 9 a.m.-3:40 p.m. Kindergarten students attend all day.

Students at Borland Elementary School (grades 3-5) attend classes from 8:50 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

At Imlay City Middle School (grades 6-8), classes are in session from 7:40 a.m.-2:15 p.m.

Imlay City High School students (grades 9-12) attend classes from 7:35 a.m.-2:10 p.m. Classes at Venture High School run from 7:30 a.m.-2:05 p.m.

The Imlay City Christian School also opens on Tuesday, Sept. 2. Incoming Principal Ron Cooy said students in grades pre-K through 8 will attend classes from 9 a.m-3:30 p.m.

Cooy said about 60 students are enrolled in the Christian-based program for the 2008-09 school year.
