CAPAC — Darcie Ball, who will be a sophomore at Capac High School this fall, competed for the Blue Water Blast softball team at the recent Pony National 14 and Under Tournament.

That event was contested July 25-30 in Cary, North Carolina.

A field of 130 teams vied for tournament honors.

"It was a great experience," Darcie told The Tri-City Times. "The chance to go there was too good of an opportunity to pass up," she noted.

"The teams were very tough there. This was some of the best competition I have ever gone up against."

Darcie, a shortstop, finished with 11 basehits over her team's six games.

She said the Blue Water Blast's best game of the tournament came against the Maryland Rippers. That clash drew to a close with her team ahead by a 7-0 scoreboard count.

The Blue Water Blast also squared off versus the New York Blast, Ohio Phoenix, Maryland Chill, the Mason Dixon (Tennessee) Blaze and the New York Rampage (which would go on to earn a spot in the tournament's Sweet 16).

The team was coached by Bill Worthen, of Algonac.
