Almont 10 and Under team posts 14-0-1 showing for month of July

August 06, 2008ALMONT — The Almont 10 and Under All-Star baseball team turned in an impressive 14-0-1 showing during the month of July.
The team outscored their opponents 170-34 along the way.
Almont opened that aforementioned stretch with a first-place finish at the Imlay City All-Star Tournament which ran from July 11-13.
In round-robin action, Almont claimed a 16-1 win against Imlay City; a 14-1 victory over Otisville; and a 20-1 triumph against North Branch.
Those results earned Almont a semifinal round appearance where North Branch provided their opposition.
When the final out was registered, Almont had advanced with an 8-2 win.
The team then closed out an unbeaten weekend on the diamonds with a 19-2 victory over Imlay City.
The following week Almont would have cause to celebrate again, leaving the Armada Tournament with a number one showing.
The event, which was contested July 18-20, saw Almont wind up with a 4-0-1 mark.
It was there Almont started things off with an 11-0 win at Washington's expense. The team then picked up a 16-4 victory over Immanuel Lutheran; registered a 6-0 triumph against Ira; made Chesterfield absorb a 10-5 loss; and tied Armada at a run per side.
Almont then made it three titles in as many weeks, taking honors at a tournament it hosted from July 25-27.
It was there Almont concluded play with a 5-0 mark. They outscored Chesterfield (13-5); Washington (10-1); South Farmington (8-3); Armada (5-4); and Lake Orion (9-4) to accomplish the feat.
Brendan Ecker, Nick Terry, Michael Boughner, Adam Finn, Jacob Battani, Garrison Gandy, Thad Marcola, Seth Malburg, Chase Torretta, Josh Thomas, Nick Baker and Ethan Lee comprised the roster of Almont's squad. Avery Bartlett was their batboy.
Almont was directed to their three tournament titles by coaches Ted Marcola, Mike Thomas and Andy Bartlett.
