IMLAY CITY — The gates opened yesterday for the 109th Eastern Michigan Fair but there's still four days left in the jam-packed schedule of events to enjoy all the rides, sights, food and fun.

New events slated for this year's fair include a chainsaw artist and music stage featuring local performers. Of course, there's the midway and carnival games, 4-H exhibits and animal projects, the petting zoo and lots of exhibitors and vendors. Back by popular demand is Circus Pages and their high wire act.

"For the price, there's no place else in Michigan that offers that much entertainment," Fair Manager Ian Kempf said.

Nightly grandstand events are always crowd pleasers too. Tonight (August 6) it's the Bull Mania rodeo followed by Thursday's Superman Motocross, Friday's Autocross and Saturday's Demolition Derby. All begin at 7 p.m.

The 4-H Livestock Auction will take place on Thursday at 1 p.m. Horse pulls are slated for noon on Saturday at the grandstands.

Kempf said that visitors will note improved access on the grounds too.

"We've put down blacktop on the remaining walkways that gives better access for strollers and wheelchairs," he said.

The gates open at noon and close at 11 p.m. every day.

Admission is $12 on Wednesday and Thursday and $15 on Friday and Saturday.

Senior citizens, 62 and older, pay $8 for admission from 12-5 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.

Thursday is Kid's Day. Admission is $8 from 12-5 p.m. For more information call the fair office 724-4145.
