Scouts brighten up sign

June 25, 2008
CAPAC — A welcome greeting got a little brighter last week thanks to local Cub Scouts and their sponsors.

Den Leader Shawn Muter says a number of boys from Cub Scout Pack 200 pitched in and planted flowers underneath the 'Welcome to Capac' sign at the south end of town.

Capac Cub Scouts from Pack 200 add a little color to the welcome sign at the south end of Capac. The Scouts did the planting as part of an annual summertime community service project.

The project, Muter says, is part of an annual effort to get the Scouts involved in community service every summer.

"Each June we try to do a service project as one of our summer activities," Muter says.

After obtaining approval from the village and DPW, Muter says local sponsors and parents stepped up to the plate to help the boys with the project.

"We had dads and moms and parents helping with the weed whipping, digging out the old dirt and weeding it out," Muter says. "And the kids did really well. It looks really nice."

A yard of soil was donated by Angela and Joel Brittingham of Adam Oaks/Brittingham Lawn, and other sponsors include The Store in Capac, Guardian Pest Avenger (Bob Leonard and family), Jusko's Greenhouse of Richmond and the Memphis Elevator (Chris and Donna).

"We're very grateful to the sponsors that donated to our project," Muter says. "We really appreciate their generosity and support."
