Capac golfer ties for 34th place at the Division 3 golf state finals

CAPAC — Capac senior Kenny Randall posted a 160 output over 36 holes en route to a five-way tie for 34th last Friday and Saturday at the Division 3 state golf finals.

A total of 90 competitors teed it up over the two-day event.

Forest Akers East Golf Course, in East Lansing, is where the action unfolded.

Randall started tournament play with an 80 on Friday.

He followed it up with an 80 Saturday, giving him a two-day total of 160.

Patrick Duda, of Lansing, outdueled Midland Bullock Creek's Eric Gandy in a four-hole playoff to claim medalist honors. Both completed 36 holes with matching 146 outputs.

Sheldon Kyte, Kalama-zoo Hackett, 147; Goodrich's Tyler Frantangelo and Flint Powers' Nick Cunningham, a 148 each; Lansing Catholic's Patrick Staudt and Big Rapids' B. Addison Monfils, a 149 apiece; Nick Gunthorpe, Ovid-Elsie, 150; plus Jackson Lumen Christi's Jake Lefere and Tobin Dunigan, a 151 apiece; rounded out the top-10 golfers.

In the team competition, Big Rapids (won on fifth player tiebreaker) outlasted Lansing Catholic for the distinction of state champions. Each team finished with 618 outputs. They were followed by Jackson Lumen Christi and Flint Powers (622 apiece), Kalamazoo Hackett (622), Kalamazoo Christian (632), Schoolcraft (633), Napoleon (634), Goodrich (640), Saginaw Nouvel (652), Frankenmuth (662), Ann Arbor Gabriel (664), Stanton Central Montcalm (668), Durand (684) and Shelby (688).
