Times announces areas best girls' softball talent

TRI-CITY AREA — From the opening pitch to the final out, these players proved that they belonged among the best around.

Here is a look at this year's edition of The Tri-City Times All-Area softball team and the numbers they generated to earn the distinction:

Name: Natalie Maynard

School: Dryden

Year: Sophomore

Years on varsity: One

Position: Pitcher

Throws: Righthanded

Record: Maynard put together a 15-11 record during the 2008 campaign.

She struck out a total of 161 batters en route.

Batting average: Maynard pulled up fourth on the Dryden ballclub and sixth out of those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status with a .445 average.

She furnished 45 hits among 101 at bats.

Maynard also contributed her team's second best RBI total (37), amassed her squad's fourth highest run output (35) plus tied for her team's sixth best walk total (seven).

Postseason honors: Maynard completed her second year on Dryden's varsity as an All-District first team pick and an All-North Central Thumb League second team selection.

Name: Mikayla Pardon

School: Imlay City

Year: Junior

Years on varsity: Two

Position: Pitcher

Throws: Righthanded

Record: Pardon notched an 8-12 mark, featuring a 2.53 ERA, this spring.

In 124 2/3 innings of work, Pardon gave up 81 hits (67 singles, eight doubles and six triples), issued 66 walks, hit four opposing batters and registered 202 strikeouts.

Batting average: Pardon notched a .366 average, thanks to 34 singles, two doubles and one triple in 101 at bats. Her level of plate proficiency was best on the Imlay City ballclub and seventh out of those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status.

She also sported a .398 on-base percentage, generated her team's highest steal (26) and run (18) outputs, collected her team's third highest RBI total (11) plus waited out one walk.

Postseason honors: Pardon finished her second season on Imlay City's varsity as an All-Blue Water Area Conference first team choice and and All-District first team pick.

Name: Jamie Green

School: Capac

Year: Sophomore

Years on varsity: One

Position: Pitcher/Outfield

Throws: Righthanded

Record: Green wound up with a 6-5 record during the 2008 campaign.

In 62 innings of work, Green yielded 42 hits, issued 15 walks and retired 58 opposing batters on strikes.

Batting average: Green ranked second on the Capac ballclub and fifth among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees with a .446 average during the 2008 campaign.

She managed 29 singles, two doubles and two triples among 74 at bats.

Green also tied for her team's highest RBI output (18), amassed her squad's second best run (18) and steal (seven) totals and drew a pair of walks.

Postseason honors: She ended her initial campaign with Capac's varsity as an All-Blue Water Area Conference first team selection.

Name: Alyssa Snyder

School: Imlay City

Year: Junior

Years on varsity: Two

Position: Pitcher/first base

Throws: Righthanded

Record: Snyder produced a 6-9 mark this spring.

In 87 1/3 innings of work, Snyder allowed 116 hits (92 singles, 13 doubles, four triples and two home runs), issue 21 walks, hit seven opposing batters and retired 87 batters on strikes.

Batting average: Snyder supplied a .304 average, thanks to 21 singles, four doubles and three triples in 92 at bats. Her level of plate proficiency was good enough to tie for third on the Imlay City ballclub and ninth out of those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status this spring.

She also wielded a .404 on-base percentage, tied for her squad's third highest run output (13) and tied for her team's fifth best RBI total (eight).

Snyder capped her third season on Imlay City's squad as an All-Blue Water Area Conference first team choice and an All-District pick.

Name: Ashley Mousseau

School: Capac

Year: Junior

Years on varsity: Two

Position: Pitcher

Record: Mousseau amas-sed Capac's second highest win total, finishing with five, during the 2008 campaign.

In 104 innings of work, Mousseau gave up 67 hits, allowed 62 walks and retired 96 opposing hitters on strikes.

Batting average: Mousseau ranked 11th on the Capac ballclub and 12th among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees with .189 average during the 2008 campaign.

She supplied eight singles and two doubles among 53 at bats.

Mousseau also contributed her squad's fifth best RBI total (eight) plus tied for her team's sixth highest run output (eight).

Postseason honors: She completed her second season with Capac's varsity as an All-Blue Water Area Conference honorable mention selection.

Name: Katelyn Kain

School: Capac

Year: Sophomore

Years on varsity: Two

Position: Catcher/third base

Batting average: Kain logged .338 average, thanks to 19 singles and five doubles in 71 at bats. Her level of plate proficiency was fifth best on the Capac ballclub and eighth out of those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status this spring.

She also tied for her squad's highest RBI (18) and walk (eight) outputs, supplied her team's third best run total (14) plus tied for her squad's fourth highest steal output (four).

Kain wrapped up her second season on Capac's varsity as an All-Blue Water Area Conference honorable mention choice.

Name: Sarah DeCeuninck

School: Dryden

Year: Junior

Years on varsity: Two

Position: Shortstop

Batting average: Deceuninck ranked first on the Dryden ballclub and among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees with a .512 average during the 2008 campaign.

She furnished 61 hits among 119 at bats.

DeCeuninck also accumulated her team's best RBI total (63), notched her squad's second highest run output (40) plus amassed her team's eighth best walk total (six).

Postseason honors: DeCeuninck ended her second season on Dryden's varsity as an All-North Central Thumb League first team selection and an All-District pick.

Name: Ashley Timmer

School: Imlay City

Year: Senior

Years on varsity: Three

Position: Shortstop

Batting average: Timmer accumulated a .276 average, thanks to 21 singles, seven doubles and one triple in 105 at bats. Her level of plate proficiency was third best on the Imlay City ballclub and 10th out of those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status this spring.

She also furnished a .377 on-base percentage, logged a team-high 15 RBI, drew her team's second highest amount of walks (nine), tallied her squad's third best run output (13) and stole three bases.

Postseason honors: Timmer concluded her second year on Imlay City's varsity as an All-Blue Water Area Conference first team choice.

Name: Darcie Ball

School: Capac

Year: Freshman

Years on varsity: One

Position: Second base

Batting average: Ball ranked first on the Capac ballclub and fourth among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees with a .457 average during the 2008 campaign.

She generated 38 hits (37 singles and one double) among 83 at bats.

Ball also registered her team's highest run (25) and steal (23) outputs, tied for her squad's best walk total (eight) plus tied for her team's seventh highest RBI output (six).

Batting average: She completed her initial season on Capac's varsity as an All-Blue Water Area Conference first team pick.

Name: Chelsea Thompson

School: Imlay City

Year: Junior

Years on varsity: One

Position: Second base

Batting average: Thomp-son generated a .274 average, thanks to 27 singles and two doubles in 106 at bats. Her level of plate proficiency was fifth on the Imlay City ballclub and 11th out of those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status this spring.

She also obtained a .381 on-base percentage, tied for her squad's highest walk output (10), furnished her team's second best steal total (13), tied for her squad's third highest run output (13) plus tied for her team's fifth best RBI total (eight).

Postseason honors: Thompson finished her first year on Imlay City's varsity as an All-Blue Water Area Conference honorable mention pick.

Name: April Warner

School: Dryden

Year: Senior

Years on varsity: Four

Position: First base

Batting average: Warner wound up second on the Dryden ballclub and among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees with a .489 average during the 2008 campaign.

She managed 47 hits among 96 at bats.

Warner also logged her team's highest run (46) and walk (29) outputs plus notched her squad's fifth highest RBI (21) total.

Postseason honors: She wrapped up her fourth season on Dryden's varsity as an All-North Central Thumb League first team selection and an All-District choice.

Name: Jessica Lavalla

School: Dryden

Year: Senior

Years on varsity: Three

Position: Outfield

Batting average: Lavalla amassed a formidable .462 average, thanks to 50 hits in 108 at bats. Her level of plate proficiency was third on the Dryden ballclub and out of those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status this spring.

She also contributed her squad's fourth highest run (35), RBI (27) and walk (13) outputs.

Postseason honors: Lavalla capped her third year on Dryden's varsity as an All-North Central Thumb League first team selection and All-District choice.

Second team - Lynsey Marchwinski, catcher, Dryden; Lauren Sohn, infield, Dryden; Courtney Rawlins, first base, Capac; Brittany Ludington, shortstop, Capac; Abby Aguinaga, shortstop/second base, Capac; Jackie Jessel, second base, Almont; Mandi Jones, outfield, Dryden; Alyssa Dawson, outfield, Imlay City; Alex Eble, outfield, Almont; and Charlotte Clark, outfield, Capac.

Coach of the Year - Gary Maynard, who directed Dryden to an 18-17-1 overall mark and a 9-8-1 North Central Thumb League showing, earns Tri-City Times All-Area Coach of the Year accolades.
