June 11, 2008 ALMONT — Perry ended Almont's unexpected postseason run, eking out a 6-5 win at their expense in a Division 3 regional semifinal baseball encounter last Saturday.
With the decision, Almont watches a 6-13 season draw to a close.
Perry would go on to turn back Montrose, 11-3, for regional honors later that day.
Almont advanced to their second straight regional with 2-1 district semifinal win against Memphis and a 9-3 district championship victory over Sandusky.
In the championship contest, Tyler Wiggins was Almont's pitcher of record. He allowed three runs during the opening inning, but held Sandusky in check the rest of the matchup.
He allowed four hits, struck out four and walked one en route.
Jordan Stanek proved Almont's top offensive threat there. Stanek went three for three, scored three runs and stole two bases. He was backed by Pat Russell (two hits and three RBI) and Mike Grundner (two hits and two RBI).
