IMLAY CITY — The Imlay City varsity baseball team outscored their opposition by a combined 10-4 count en route to a first-place finish last Saturday at a Division 2 district hosted by Yale High School.

Imlay City started their successful day on the diamond with a 7-2 semifinal win at Yale's expense.

Justin Pitt was Imlay City's pitcher of record. He allowed five hits over six innings, struck out eight and walked six along the way.

Devon Wiegers (three singles, two runs and one RBI), Blaine Goertler (two singles, two runs and one RBI), Ryan Baker (a single, a run and three RBI), Justin Pitt (a single and a run), Kevin Ahrens and Steve Lesniak (a hit apiece) along with Eric Harbin (a run and one RBI) all contributed to Imlay City's offensive attack.

Imlay City followed that up with a 3-2 championship game triumph against Cros-Lex.

Mark Owen Jr. was the winning Imlay City pitcher, scattering five hits over six innings. He retired three on strikes and issued two walks en route.

Ryan Pitt got the save for Imlay City, pitching a scoreless seventh inning.

John Aversano (a single, a run and one RBI), Justin Pitt (a single and one RBI), Baker (a single and a run) plus Ahrens and Goertler (a single apiece) accounted for Imlay City's hits there.

With the results, Imlay City improves to 22-8 overall.

Imlay City advances to this Saturday's regionals at Goodrich High School. There they will meet the host team in semifinal action.
