TRI-CITY AREA — The Imlay City varsity baseball team clinched the Blue Water Area Conference championship outright with an 11-0 road triumph against Capac last Thursday afternoon.
With the outcome, Imlay City improves to 17-7 and 12-2.
In Thursday's encounter, Imlay City jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one inning was complete. The Spartans followed it up with a one-run second inning, a five-run fourth and a three-run fifth to close out the triumph.
Justin Pitt was Imlay City's pitcher of record. He allowed two hits, struck out nine and walked one.
Blaine Goertler (three hits and two runs), Ryan Pitt (three hits, two runs and two RBI), Devon Wiegers (two hits, two runs and two RBI) led Imlay City with multiple-hit performances. They were backed by Justin Pitt (a single, two runs and two RBI), Ryan Baker (a single and two RBI), Steve Lesniak (a single and a run scored), Jordan McNary (a single and two RBI), Nick Smith (a single and one RBI), John Aversano (a single and a run scored) and Eric Harbin (a run).
Vern Wilson and Sean Woods paced Capac with a single apiece.
