Eight other schools competed at Friday's regional tournament. Their ranks consisted of Madison Heights Bishop Foley (13), Goodrich (eight), Imlay City, Yale and Armada (seven each), Clawson (two), Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes (one) and Lake Fenton (zero).
Michelle Fox led the Almont singles contingent, claiming second flight honors. Fox capped an unbeaten day on the courts with a 6-3, 7-5 win against Flint Powers foe Christina David.
The Almont first doubles team of Lindsey Yaklin and Chanahl Putnam and the third doubles combination of Laurie Yaklin and Brooke Streber netted flight titles as well. The former accomplished the feat with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over the Flint Powers combination of Paige Sedgewick and Ali Rusetzke and the latter got the job done with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph against Madison Heights Bishop Foley team of Kaitlyn Weide and Andrea Aiuto.
Claire Turvill was the other Almont player to compete for flight honors that day. Turvill gained admittance to the third singles championship match where she fell by a 1-6, 2-6 count to Flint Powers counterpart Danielle Mikhail.
