IMLAY CITY — Mark Owen Jr. threw a one-hit shutout, the third time this season he has kept the opposition off the board, as Imlay City handed host Almont an 11-0 setback in a Blue Water Area Conference varsity baseball contest last Thursday afternoon.
With the decision, Imlay City moves to 11-1 overall. That includes a 9-0 Blue Water Area Conference showing.
In Thursday's contest, Imlay City took advantage of a two-run first inning and a nine-run third to prevail.
Devon Wiegers and Eric Harbin paced Imlay City's offensive attack with three singles apiece. The former managed two runs and three RBI, while the latter amassed two RBI and two runs scored. They were backed by Justin Pitt (two hits and two runs scored), Ryan Pitt and Steve Lesniak (a single, a run and two RBI), Ryan Baker (a two-run single), Kevin Ahrens (a single, a run and one RBI) and Adam Van Dyk (one RBI and one run scored)
A day later, Imlay City did not fare as well when the final scores were tallied.
Pitted against visiting Blue Water Area Conference rival Yale, Imlay City wound up on the losing end of a 10-7 scoreboard count.
Justin Pitt (three singles, two RBI and two runs), Ahrens (two singles and a run) were Imlay City's offensive headliners. They received support in the hitting department from Ryan Pitt (a two-run double and two runs scored), Baker (a single and one run scored), John Aversano (a single and one RBI), along with Harbin and Wiegers (a single each).
