IMLAY CITY — Motorists traversing the M-53 corridor may soon have yet another location to spend a projected $4 a gallon for gasoline.

Kroger of Michigan has submitted a site plan to build a new "fuel center" at the southwest corner of the Imlay Plaza, located at 1821 S. Cedar St. (Van Dyke).

The plan calls for construction of a 116-square-foot kiosk and a 24-foot-by-120-foot fueling canopy for four duel-sided gas pumps.

City Manager Amy Planck said she has been contacted by Matthew Pisko of JGD Associates of Avon Lake, Ohio; which has provided a site plan and request for special land use at the 16-acre site.

The matter will come before the Imlay City Planning Commission at its Tues., April 22 meeting. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m.

"These stations seem to be the trend," said Planck. "I guess they're wanting to compete with the Wal-mart and Meijer stores."

She noted that according to the plans, M-53 motorists would access the proposed fueling center at the south entrance of the plaza.

There is a similar fuel station at the Kroger store in Lapeer.
