Police chief remains in serious condition

PORT HURON — Chief Raymond Hawks remains in serious but stable condition at Port Huron Hospital following a third surgery today, April 18.

"He came through surgery very well," hospital spokesperson Sherry Sheleny said on Friday afternoon around 4:30 p.m.

Sheleny said she spoke to Hawk's wife, Vickie, who related her husband's condition.

Hawks was seriously injured after being shot Wednesday afternoon by village resident, Donald Burke, 50, following an attempted traffic stop by Hawks which ended at Burke's William G. Drive home.

Hawks marked his 64th birthday yesterday, April 17.

A medical condition has delayed Burke's arraignment on multiple charges including attempted murder.
