IMLAY CITY — The Downtown Development Authority is tipping its hat to one of the city's most successful businesses.

In recognition of 25 years of service and commitment to the community, Mayor Rodney Warner presented a proclamation Wednesday to Nacho and Irene Ramirez, owners of Nacho's Taco House in downtown Imlay City.

Located at 100 South Main Street at the corner of Third Street, the restaurant has become a magnet for the city's downtown district, Warner says.

"The restaurant is a landmark in Imlay City," says Warner. "No matter where you go in or outside this area, everybody seems to know about Nacho's. It's one of the hubs of this community."

The proclamation noted that Nacho's "has assisted in the Downtown Development Authority's mission of restoring, preserving and enhancing the physical and economic vitality of downtown Imlay City."

Warner, who recalls the restaurant's orgins, credited the couple with adding significantly to the local economy and the city's image.

"Nacho's come a long way since he was selling burritos out of the trunk of his car," he says.

Nacho Ramirez says the key to the restaurant's success has been great food and service and loyal customers.

"The economy is tough and there's a lot of competition," he says. "Our location isn't the easiest to find and we don't serve alcohol, so our customers must like the food."
