Wegner, Guerrero, Kulman slated to bring mat skills to The Palace

TRI-CITY AREA — When the Division 3 individual state wrestling finals take place this Thursday through Saturday at The Palace of Auburn Hills, there will be three grapplers hailing from Tri-City schools participating.

At heavyweight, Capac senior Alex Wegner will start his pursuit of All-State honors (given to those who rank among the top-eight finishers) against Ishpeming senior Zach Heikkila. Those grapplers enter the fray sporting 57-4 and 18-15 records, respectively.

The victor of that encounter squares off versus the survivor of a battle between Muskegon Orchard View junior Cody VanDonke-laar (38-6) and Lakewood sophomore Ryan Steverson (41-8).

In the 130-pound weight class, Imlay City senior Mike Guerrero (51-9) opens his tournament stint versus Caro sophomore Travis Jaster (47-4).

The winner of that clash meets the survivor of an encounter between Belding junior Cassidy Brumel (47-6) and Buchanan junior Drew Medin (46-4).

At 145 pounds, Capac sophomore Brian Kulman will start his pursuit of All-State accolades against Grayling junior Cody Collen. Those grapplers head into the battle as owners of 41-13 and 42-4 marks, respectively.

The victor of that encounter squares off versus the survivor of a battle between Brooklyn Columbia Central senior Ryan Lake (45-7) and Central Montcalm junior Ethan Porter (49-11).
