February 27, 2008 CAPAC — Notre Dame Prep withstood a field goal attempt from point-blank range as time expired to edge host Capac in a Class B boys' district basketball opening round game Monday night.
With the result, Notre Dame Prep moves on to Wednesday's semifinal versus Lutheran North. That contest is slated for 7:30 p.m. Capac finishes at 11-10.
In Monday's game, Capac grabbed a 14-12 edge after one quarter was history.
Notre Dame then fought back with a 17-13 second quarter cushion and a 12-10 third quarter advantage, good enough for a 41-37 edge at the 24-minute mark.
Notre Dame Prep then withstood a 16-14 fourth quarter rally to close out a 55-53 win.
Danny DeMartis paced Notre Dame Prep with 17 points, including three trifectas.
Dan Jackson topped Capac with 22 points. He was backed by Jon Carroll (eight, featuring a pair of treys), Chris Schroeder (eight), Joe Frazier (six, with one triple), Kevin Bollaert (five) along with A.J. Rank and Joe Harvey (two each).
