Armada outlasts Almont, 76-63

ALMONT — A 19-6 overtime advantage lifted Armada to a 76-63 victory over Almont in a Class B boys' district basketball opening round encounter Monday at Capac High School.

With the decision, Armada advances to Wednesday's semifinals where Imlay City awaits. That battle is scheduled for 6 p.m. Almont watches a 12-9 campaign reach an endpoint.

In Monday's matchup, Almont took a 17-8 lead after one quarter was done.

The middle two quarters saw Armada outscore Almont by a combined 37-24 count.

That left Armada holding a 45-41 edge at the 24-minute mark.

Quarter number four saw Armada put together a 16-12 rally, making it a 57-57 ballgame at the end of regulation play.

In overtime, Armada seized command. It was there they netted 19 points and allowed Almont just six, good enough for a 76-63 win when the final buzzer sounded.

Jordan Krause led Armada with 19 points.

Neal Zott (22 points, with two triples) paced Almont. He was backed by Zack Lowell (20 points, including a pair of trifectas), Kevin Clarkston (eight, featuring a trey), Brian Thomas (seven), Joe Miller (three), Dillon Melly (two) and Andy Schoen (one).
