In that encounter, Wegner was pinned with 1:31 gone.
"The last time we met I got caught in a head and arm," Wegner said. "This time I made sure not to make that mistake," he noted.
"It was a great feeling to come back this week and pin him in the regional championship match. I was able to redeem myself."
He will be joined by teammate Brian Kulman at the upcoming state finals. Kulman qualified with a fourth-place finish. He advanced to the weight division's consolation final where he dropped a narrow 12-9 verdict to Millington's Sean Gravelyn.
Mike Guerrero, of Imlay City, was the other Tri-City Area grappler to move on. He placed fourth at 130 pounds.
His day on the mats drew to a close with a 12-1 loss to Richmond counterpart Brian Henke.
