February 20, 2008 TRI-CITY AREA — Imlay City advanced four wrestlers, Capac qualified two and Almont will send one to this Saturday's Division 3 individual regionals scheduled for Goodrich High School.
They earned the right to compete again with top-four weight class showings last Saturday at a Goodrich High School-based indvidual district.
Kevin Ahrens led Imlay City with a second-place finish that day. Ahrens reached the 125-pound title encounter where he dropped a 2-0 verdict to Goodrich's Kirk Britton.
Mike Guerrero, Ryan Baker and Joshua Timmer added fourths to Imlay City's cause. Guerrero advanced to the consolation finals at 130 pounds where he was pinned with 1:52 gone by Richmond's Brian Henke; Baker gained admittance to the 171-pound consolation final where he fell by an 8-7 count to Frankenmuth's Cameron Thomson; and Timmer reached the consolation finals at 215 pounds where he was pinned with 4:34 elapsed by Lakeville's Donald Whitehead.
Alex Wegner paced Capac with a second. Wegner advanced to the heavyweight championship match where he was pinned by Birch Run's Earl Leach with 1:31 gone.
Brian Kulman tacked on a third for Capac. Kulman gained admittance to the 145-pound consolation final where he pinned Frankenmuth's Ethan Todd with 1:58 elapsed.
Josh Kunath notched the lone Almont placewinning performance, acquiring a third. Kunath reached the consolation final at 152 pounds where he claimed a 9-7 win against Millington's Eric Thibeault.
