ALMONT — The Almont varsity girls' basketball team claimed the Blue Water Area Conference championship outright, accomplishing the feat with a 49-43 triumph against visiting Armada last Friday night.
It marked the first time that Almont has earned a conference championship outright since the 1956 campaign. The only other time the Raiders topped the league standings by themselves was the 1953 season.
"Last season we shared the league title with Algonac," Almont Coach Steve Edwards said. "It is nice to have it all to ourselves this year," he noted.
In Friday's confrontation, Almont and Armada finished the initial quarter with identical nine-point outputs.
