Almont battles Capac to a 61-57 league win

TRI-CITY AREA — Almont eked out a 61-57 win against visiting Capac in a Blue Water Area Conference varsity boys' basketball battle last Friday night.

With the result, Almont moves to 9-6 and 6-4. Capac slips to 9-5 and 6-4.

In Friday's battle, Almont grabbed a 16-13 lead after one quarter was done.

Quarter number two would see Almont toss in 15 points and Capac manage 11.

That left Almont holding a 31-24 edge at the halftime break.

When the action resumed, Capac started to mount a comeback bid.

Thanks to a 16-13 third quarter advantage, Capac closed the gap to 44-40 at the 24-minute mark.

Almont and Capac then hit for identical 17-point outputs during the last eight minutes of action, leaving the former with a 61-57 victory to celebrate when the final second ticked off the clock.

Zack Lowell (19 points, including three trifectas), Kevin Clarkston (12, featuring a pair of treys) and Neal Zott (12) proved Almont's toughest players to contain. They were given assistance in the scoring department by Brian Thomas and Josh Walker (nine points apiece).

Dan Jackson led Capac with a 19-point performance. The Chiefs also had A.J. Rank (nine points, with a triple), Jon Carroll (seven, including a trifecta), Joe Frazier (a pair of treys), Chris Schroeder (six), Kevin Bollaert (five), Tino Siewert (a triple) and Joe Harvey (two).
