Capac tops Imlay City, 40-33, in annual clash

CAPAC — Capac defeated Imlay City, 40-33, in a Blue Water Area Conference wrestling matchup last Wednesday at Algonac High School.

Andrew Bollaert, Clay Colwell, Brian Kulman and Thomas Bolday led Capac with wins via the pinfall route. Bollaert took 3:29 to stop Josh Scillian at 103 pounds; Colwell required 3:49 to turn back 140-pound foe Mason Day; Kulman needed 5:33 to upend Kevin Shene at 152 pounds; and Bolday took 36 seconds to conquer 171-pound counterpart Matt Myers.

Alex Wegner (285) provided Capac with a victory by void.

Darren Hunsucker gave Capac a triumph by major decision, posting a 14-1 score versus Ethan Walker at 145 pounds.

Eric Bollaert and Mike Parks added wins by decision to Capac's cause. The former notched an 8-6 victory over 112-pound adversary Mike Galanos and the latter registered a 6-5 triumph against Cody Campbell at 135 pounds.

Victor Leon, Kevin Ahrens, Mike Guerrero, Tim Keillor and Josh Timmer paced Imlay City with wins by pin. Leon needed 1:18 to upend Joshua Kaiser at 119 pounds; Ahrens required 1:27 to down 125-pound foe Brandon Schalm; Guerrero took 3:35 to beat Aaron Smith at 135 pounds; Keillor needed 1:40 to top 189-pound counterpart Arthur Andrade; and Timmer required 3:36 to turn back Tom Manney at 215 pounds.

Ryan Baker was the other City grappler who emerged victorious. Baker outscored 160-pound rival Dan Patton, 5-2.

Earlier that evening, Capac registered a 48-26 win against Cros-Lex.

A group consisting of Schalm, Colwell, Kulman and Arthur Andrade gave Capac victories via the pinfall route. Schalm required 38 seconds to best Ryan Schoettle at 130 pounds; Colwell needed 59 seconds to turn back 140-pound adversary Sam Fretenborou; Kulman took 12 seconds to stop Russel Weaver at 152 pounds; and Andrade required 4:41 to upend 215-pound rival Eugene Tetrault.

Smith (130) and Mike Murphy (189) contributed triumphs by void to Capac's cause.

Eric Bollaert notched the lone Capac win by technical fall, accomplishing the feat with a 16-1 outcome versus Billy Jo Murray at 112 pounds.

Andrew Bollaert gave Capac a victory by major decision, thanks to a 15-1 score versus 103-pound foe Zach Maxfield.

Kaiser was the other Capac grappler who prevailed. He defeated Luke Fabian, 10-7, at 119 pounds.

In the night's other match, Imlay City picked up a 42-27 victory over Algonac.

A group consisting of Ahrens, Guerrero and Keillor led Imlay City with wins by pin. Ahrens took 30 seconds to beat Carson Marlow at 125 pounds; Guerrero required 2:36 to turn back 125-pound foe Gordon Marcinkaske; and Keillor needed 2:58 to down Zach Marlow at 215 pounds.

Scillian (103), Kevin Shene (152) and Myers (160) gave Imlay City victories by void.

Zach Burns and Baker added triumphs via the decision route to Imlay City's cause. Burns handed Dalton Hagel a 12-5 setback at 135 pounds and Baker made 171-pound counterpart Jesse Smith absorb a 7-4 loss.

With the results, Capac moves to 28-6 and 5-1. Imlay City now stands at 19-15 and 3-3.
