CAPAC — Residents will get the chance to check out what their tax dollars purchased and improved at the Capac School District on Sunday.
A 2 p.m. ribbon cutting and open house at the high school will serve as the crowning moment of a year long series of projects made possible by a $3.6 million bond proposal approved by voters in August 2006.
Guests are invited to tour new additions and renovations at the Capac School District on Sunday. A ribbon cutting ceremony at the high school cafeteria addition (above) is slated for 2 p.m. photo by Maria Brown.
"We're looking forward to showing off our new space," Supt. Jerry Jennex said.
The ribbon cutting will take place in the newly finished cafeteria addition at the high school. The construction also put a 'new face' on the exterior of the school, Jennex said.
Guests will also be welcome to tour the high school's renovated restrooms, check out the new ceiling tiles and grid system in the corridors, parking lots renovation and expansion at the high school and central office.
structural upgrades, that included removing glass windows in hallways, have been completed and lighting has been installed in the overflow parking lot including lighting directed at the main lot.
Elsewhere on the grounds, new bleachers were installed in the high school gym and at the football field.
Lighting was installed in the bus loop and the district is in the process of replacing aging buses from their fleet. Jennex said they've already purchased two new ones and recently approved buying three 'off lease' buses.
Jennex said plans to replace about 300 outdated computers are underway.
Some money still remains in the project's construction fund but the final tally hasn't been determined, he added.
From 2-4 p.m. the cafeteria staff will be providing refreshments and samples of student lunch entrees for guests.
