Imlay City averts upset, nets a 39-34 win over rival Capac

TRI-CITY AREA — Imlay City averted an upset bid, registering a 39-34 triumph against visiting Capac in a Blue Water Area Conference varsity girls' basketball confrontation on Tuesday, January 8.

With the outcome, Imlay City ups its mark to 6-3 and 2-1. Capac watches their record drop to 1-8 and 0-3.

In Tuesday's encounter, Imlay City grabbed a 9-7 edge after one quarter was history.

Quarter number two would prove close as well.

It was there Imlay City generated eight points and Capac netted six.

That made it 17-13, Imlay City, at the halftime break.

When the action resumed, Capac bounced back with an 8-7 third quarter edge.

That trimmed Capac's deficit to 24-21 at the 24-minute mark.

Imlay City then outscored Capac by a 15-13 count from that point on, assuring themselves of a 39-34 triumph at game's end.

Krissy Swejkowski finished with an 11-point performance to pace Imlay City. She was given assistance in the scoring department by Lindsey VanDyk (nine, including a field goal of the three-point variety), Josefine Egholm (six, featuring a pair of treys), Brynn Bertram and Anne Pawlaczyk (five apiece) along with Taylor Lee (three).

Gloria Polzin (12 points) topped Capac. The remaining Chief points went to Jennica Polzin (nine, including one field goal of the three-point variety), Brandy Bly (six), Taylor Sinda (four), Samantha Batchelder (two) and Gabby Sabatino (one).
