Capac finishes in third place at Harry C. Moore Classic Tourney
January 09, 2008CAPAC — The Capac varsity basketball team handed Marlette a 72-55 setback in the consolation game of the Harry C. Moore Classic Tour-nament on Friday, December 28.
With the outcome, Capac improves to 5-1 overall.
In Friday's encounter, Capac and Marlette gave the scoreboard operator plenty of work during the opening quarter. That eight-minute stretch of hoops drew to a close with Capac holding a 20-18 edge.
The second quarter would see that breakneck pace contiue. It was there Capac netted 19 points, while allowing Marlette 16.
That made it 39-34, Capac, at the halftime break.
When the action resumed, Capac established even more breathing room.

Aided by a 17-12 third quarter advantage, Capac raised their lead to 56-46 at the 24-minute mark.
Capac then used a 16-9 edge during the final eight minutes of action to close out a 72-55 win at Marlette's expense.
Jon Carroll (19 points) proved Capac's toughest player to contain. He was given assistance in the scoring department by Dan Jackson (15 points), Joe Frazier (11, featuring a trey), A.J. Rank (nine, with a triple), Kevin Bollaert and Tino Siewert (six each), Jon Botwin (four) and Joe Harvey (two).
For Marlette, Austin Comment's 11-point performance set the pace. Comment drained a trifecta en route to that output. John Bishop (10 points) hit for double figures as well.
All-Tournament team - Donovan Ogboh, Brown City; A.J. Burton, Brown City; Jack McPhail, Brown City; Dan Jackson, Capac; John Bishop, Marlette; and Justin Calvert, North Branch.
Harry C. Moore Scholarship recipient - Sean McCormick, of North Branch, earned the honor.
Kevin Bollaert (Capac), David Bliss (Marlette) and Donovan Ogboh (Brown City) were also nominated for the award.
