IMLAY TWP. — A 26-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed early Sunday, Dec. 23 while walking along westbound M-21 near Cade Road.

Michigan State Police from Lapeer reported that Jeffrey Keith Toole Jr. died around 2:45 a.m., after he was hit by an eastbound pickup driven by a Wyoming, MI resident.

Troopers said Toole appeared to have been walking in the eastbound lane. His vehicle was discovered disabled in a ditch on the south side of M-21, just east of Cade.

The accident remains under investigation by Michigan State Police. Mussey Twp. firefighters, Imlay City police and Tri-Hospital EMS assisted at the scene.

Born Dec. 1, 1981 in Flint, MI, Toole grew up in the Imlay City area, where he attended Imlay City High School.

A journeyman plumber for Main Line Plumbing in Shelby Twp., family members said Toole had been an amatuer boxer who once took first place in a "tough man" competition.

He was described by family as a skilled welder and painter.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 27 at the Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Imlay City.
