Balanced scoring gives Almont win over Imlay City

TRI-CITY AREA — Almont turned back visiting Imlay City, 57-51, in a Blue Water Area Conference varsity boys' basketball encounter on Tuesday, December 18.

With the outcome, Almont moves to 4-2 and 1-0. Imlay City drops to 2-3 and 0-1.

In Tuesday's encounter, Almont opened up a 17-13 edge after one quarter was complete.

The next eight-minute stretch, though, would belong to Imlay City.

Aided by a 16-5 advantage there, Imlay City took a 29-22 advantage at the midway mark.

When the action resumed, Almont bounced back with an 18-6 third quarter edge.

That left Almont holding a 40-35 cushion at the 24-minute mark.

Almont followed it up with a 17-16 final quarter edge, securing a 57-51 victory.

Dillon Melly (13 points), Josh Walker (12), Neal Zott (11, including a field goal of the three-point variety) and Zack Lowell (10, featuring a trey) led Almont with double figure outputs. Kevin Clarkston (seven) along with Andy Schoen and Brian Thomas (two each) accounted for their remaining points.

For Imlay City, Ben Deppong (14 points) proved the toughest player to contain. Mark Owen (13 points, with a pair of triples) hit for double figures as well. Mason Duke (nine), Darren Saunders (seven, including a trifecta), Chris Coleman (six) and Adam Van Dyk (two) also contributed points to the Spartans' cause.
