December 19, 2007 IMLAY TWP. — A 64-year-old Almont woman died Tuesday, Dec. 18 in a head-on crash on M-53 (Van Dyke), north of Webster Rd.
Lapeer County Sheriff's Dept. investigators report that Guadalupe Alberts was northbound around 5:17 p.m. in a 1996 Skylark, when she veered into the southbound lane, striking a 2007 Ford Fusion driven by Jack Heacock, 64, of Attica.
Heacock and his wife, Lue, 59, were removed from their vehicle by Imlay City Fire and Rescue and transferred to Beaumont hospitals in Troy and Royal Oak, where both were in stable condition.
Alberts, who was reportedly not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, Sgt. Jason Parks reported.
Parks said neither weather conditions nor excessive speeds appeared to be factors in the crash, adding that alcohol was also not involved.
As a result of the accident, traffic along Van Dyke between Hunters Creek and Websters roads had to be diverted for about two-and-a-half hours.
Assisting at the crash scene were Imlay City and Almont police officers.
The crash is still under investigation by the Lapeer County Sheriff's Dept.
