Second half sparks Deckerville to road win against Capac girls

CAPAC — A 41-11 second half advantage propelled visiting Deckerville past Capac, 62-28, in a non-conference girls' varsity basketball encounter last Thursday night.

With the result, Decker-ville moves to 2-1 overall. Capac drops to 0-4 this season.

In Thursday's encounter, Deckerville took an 11-6 lead after one quarter was complete.

The second quarter saw Capac net 11 points, while allowing Deckerville 10.

That closed Capac's deficit to 21-17 at the halftime break.

When the action resumed, Deckerville established some much-needed breathing room.

Aided by a 24-5 third quarter cushion, Deckerville pushed their lead to 45-22 at the 24-minute mark.

Deckerville then outscored Capac by a 17-6 over the last eight minutes of play, good for a 62-28 victory when the final buzzer sounded.

Aleesha Smith paced Deckerville. She finished with 17 points, including one field goal of the three-point variety.

Taylor Sinda topped Capac with a nine-point performance. The Chiefs also had Gloria Polzin (seven), Samantha Batchelder (four), Kayla Weber (three), Laura Pewinski and Jennica Polzin (two each) along with Gabby Sabatino (one apiece) reach the scoring column.
