Imlay City boys opens season with road win

IMLAY CITY — The Imlay City varsity boys' basketball squad saw to it that it would start the 2007-08 campaign on a high note, earning a 61-49 road win at North Branch's expense in a non-league meeting on Tuesday, December 4.

In the opener, Imlay City grabbed a 16-13 edge after one quarter was history.

Imlay City followed it up with an 18-12 second quarter advantage, good for a 34-25 lead at the halftime break.

When the action resumed, Imlay City established even more breathing room.

Aided by a 16-11 third quarter edge, Imlay City took a 50-36 advantage at the 24-minute mark.

North Branch then outscored Imlay City by a 13-11 count the rest of the way, only to fall by a 61-49 verdict when the final buzzer sounded.

Mason Duke paced Imlay City with a 10-point effort. The Spartans also received points courtesy of Chris Coleman (nine), Chris Walters, Darren Saunders and Ben Deppong (eight each), Adam Van Dyk (six, featuring a trey), John Aversano (five), Eric Ebert (four) and Chase Dockham (a triple).

Luc Bonner proved North Branch's toughest player to stop. Bonner managed 15 points, including a trifecta.
