Almont fends off Cass City, 59-50

ALMONT — Almont made visiting Cass City absorb a 59-50 loss in a non-conference varsity boys' basketball encounter last Saturday night.

With the result, Almont ups its mark to 2-1. Cass City watches their record slip to 1-2.

In Saturday's encounter, Almont bolted out to a 17-9 advantage after one quarter was complete.

Quarter number two would see Cass City net 15 points, while allowing Almont 14.

That made it 31-24, Almont, at the halftime break.

When the action resumed, Cass City began to mount a comeback bid.

Aided by a 16-9 third quarter advantage, Cass City made it a 40-40 ballgame at the 24-minute mark.

Almont then outscored Cass City 19-10 from that point on, closing out a 59-50 win.

For Almont, Neal Zott led the way with 23 points. Zott drained a triple along the way. The Raiders also had Kevin Clarkston (15 points, including three trifectas), Josh Walker (nine), Zack Lowell (eight) along with Andy Schoen and Dillon Melly (two each) connect.

Shane Bloomfield paced Cass City with 16 points. Chris Binder (11 points, featuring three treys) and Chris Summerset (10) also contributed double digit outputs to the Red Hawks' cause.
