ALMONT — The Almont wrestling team went 5-0 en route to a first-place finish last Saturday at an invitational it hosted.
Almont started things off with a 45-21 win against the Richmond 'B' team. That was followed by a 53-26 victory over Centerline; a 60-24 triumph against Memphis; a 42-39 win over Frankenmuth; and a 48-35 victory against Burton Bendle.

Taylor Lawrence (119), Sean Cooper (145) and Mike Owen (160) led Almont with 4-0 marks that day.
Nick Curtis (130), Josh Kunath (152) and James Pierce (189/215) put together 4-1 records for Almont.
Steve Mack and Ethan Coucke logged the next highest Almont win totals. The former fashioned a 3-1 mark versus 171-pound weight class foes, while the latter went 3-2 splitting his time between the 189 and 215-pound weight divisions.
Almont had three other grapplers finish with at least a .500 record. Their ranks included Tim Zehnder, 140 pounds, 2-0; Nick Justice, 103 pounds, 1-0; and Dylan Creger, 125 pounds, 2-2.
