Almont girls and Capac boys garner fifth-place showings at BWAC Meet

TRI-CITY AREA — The Almont, Capac and Imlay City girls' cross country squads notched respective showings of fifth, seventh and eighth at a Blue Water Area Conference Jamboree Meet on Tuesday, October 16.

Goodells County Park is where the action unfolded.

When the final scores were announced, Cros-Lex (38 points) earned the distinction of team champion. They were followed by Richmond (89 points), Algonac (89), Almont (123), Yale (127), Capac (178) and Imlay City (191).

Marie Burkland, fourth, 19:49; led Almont that day. Lauren Deneweth, seventh, 20:05; Ellen Glinski, 27th, 22:11; Lexi Sheehan, 41st, 23:43; and Kelsey Butler, 46th, 25:03; rounded out the Raiders' top-five.

Melissa Sawicki, second, 19:17; proved Capac's pacesetter. The Chiefs also counted results from Mackenzie Hackelberg, 40th, 23:35; Ashley Callewaert, 44th, 24:06; LaRae Hemstrom, 45th, 24:44; and Kylie Miller, 47th, 25:25.

Amanda Lacertosa, 16th, 21:08; logged the swiftest Imlay City performance. Sarah Bennett, 32nd, 22:29; Brittany Price, 43rd, 23:59; Olivia Leonardi, 48th, 25:30; and Caley Campbell, 52nd, 27:38; completed the Spartans' top-five.

In the boys' portion of the meet, Capac pulled up fifth.

Melissa Sawicki, of Capac, took second at the BWAC Meet.
Cros-Lex paced the eight-team field, thanks to a 57-point output. Yale (80 points), Armada (90), Algonac (91), Capac (96), Richmond (99), Almont (183) and Imlay City (188) gave chase.

Brendan Pfeifer paced Capac that day. Pfeifer's time of 16:32 paid off with a first. The Chiefs also counted results from Chris Paluch, 14th, 18:00; Shane O'Conner, 20th, 18:31; Jeremy Paluch, 26th, 18:51; and Ben St. Onge, 35th, 19:01.

Don Tobias, 13th, 17:54; checked in with Almont's best showing. Eric Jacobs, 34th, 19:00; Stephen Savonne, 39th, 19:12; Joel Bock, 48th, 20:02; and Nick Vassallo, 49th, 20:02; rounded out the Raiders' top-five.

Kevin Ahrens, 18th, 18:15; led Imlay City. The Spartans also counted results from Noah Bennett, 32nd, 18:58; Rich Davis, 41st, 19:18; Erick Fredendall, 47th, 19:58; and Nick Overland, 20:23.

Girls - 1) Cros-Lex, 24 points; 2) Armada and Richmond, 19 each; 4) Algonac, 16; 5) Almont, 12; 6) Yale, nine; 7) Capac, six; and 8) Imlay City, three.

Boys - 1) Cros-Lex, 23 points; 2) Yale, 22; 3) Armada, 17; 4) Algonac, 16; 5) Capac, 11; 6) Richmond, 10; 7) Almont, five; and 8) Imlay City, four.
