Capac upends Almont and Algonac in quad

TRI-CITY AREA — The Capac and Almont varsity volleyball teams went 2-0 and 0-2, respectively, in Blue Water Area Conference action last Thursday at Almont High School.

Capac opened their two-match stint with a 19-25, 28-26, 18-25, 25-13, 15-10 win against Algonac. That was followed by a 25-20, 25-15, 25-18 victory over Almont.

Brittany Friedenstab finished with 55 asssists as Capac's offensive catalyst that evening.

Sara Tomeo (28 kills) and Natalia Santi (25) proved Capac's toughest hitters to stop. They were backed by Friedenstab (11 kills), Taylor Sinda (10), Charlotte Clark (two) and Laura Pewinski (one).

Santi notched Capac's highest dig output, accumulating 25. The Chiefs also received digs courtesy of Clark (21), Tomeo (20), Abby Aguinaga (17), Friedenstab (14), Sinda (four), Pewinski (two) and Ashley Mousseau (one)

Blocking-wise, Tomeo (three solos and two assists) paced Capac.

Almont's two-match stint began with a 15-25, 6-25, 14-25 loss to Yale. That was followed by a 20-25, 15-25, 18-25 setback to Capac.

Cortney Reid and Lyndsay Klebba furnished the top Almont serving credentials. They managed four and two aces, respectively.

Reid handled the bulk of Almont's playmaking responsibilities. She furnished 20 assists.

Taylor Dziewit supplied the highest Almont kill total, cranking out 15. Klebba (six kills) made her presence felt as well.

Dziewit paced Almont's defense as well, generating 16 digs. Courtney Braun (13 digs), Tara Ouillette and Reid (12 each) and Jolie Wycinski (seven) put up good numbers as well.

Wycinski added two solo blocks to Almont's cause.

With Thursday's results, Capac bumps its mark to 20-11-6 and 8-3. Almont watches their record slip to 2-22-1 and 0-10.
