When Jack Lewis— 'Capt. Jack' straps himself into an airplane, everything negative evaporates. No longer wheelchair bound, the sky's the limit and his spirit soars.

Lewis will once again share that experience with youngsters who may not otherwise have the chance to let their dreams literally take flight during Saturday's 'Dreams and Wings' event at Dupont airport in Lapeer.

Lewis has passed along that feeling of accomplishment and sense of possibility to youngsters with special needs for years. According to parents of those he and other volunteer pilots have given the flight experience to, the returns are priceless. Beaming with pride and flush with joy, children come away from the day's events with memories that last a lifetime.

The experience and those memories may also propel some youngsters who may have otherwise felt "different" and "limited" to take hold of their dreams and make them come true.

'Dreams and Wings' and the volunteers who make the program possible each year help create a new and exciting world for many area children—a world where negativity disappears and spirits soar.
