ALMONT — Raiders fans have a chance to show their colors and wrap themselves in warmth this winter with a custom-made, one-of-a-kind quilt.

Handmade by professional quilter Sharon Lams, the large orange and black cotton quilt will be raffled off to help fund Almont cheerleaders' activities.

"We came up with the idea after talking about what type of fundraising we could do to help with the costs of competitions, camp and shirts and uniforms," Lams says, adding that her daughter Kimberly is on the cheerleading squad.

Since she owns her own quilting company 'Sewing Comforts,' which gives her a creative edge, Lams decided to make a quilt and raffle it off.

It's not just any old quilt, either. Along with the school colors of orange and black, jerseys and/or shirts from every varsity sport are incorporated into the design.

"Instead of using pictures, I used jerseys," Lams says of the design process.

After measuring and gridding the design, Lams worked about 40 hours on the project. Aside from the jerseys, the quilt is 100 percent cotton.

Volunteers will be selling raffle tickets—which are $2 apiece—at the home game this Friday, Sept. 25. Tickets will also be sold at the final home game on Fri., Oct. 5.

For more information or to purchase raffle tickets call Lams at 798-8991.
