ALMONT — The Almont varsity football team kept their perfect record intact, registering a 29-9 road triumph against Cros-Lex in a Blue Water Area Conference meeting last Friday night.

With the result, Almont goes to 4-0 and 3-0. Cros-Lex drops to 1-3 and 1-2.

"It is a long trip up here," Almont Coach Jeremy Ferman said. "Anytime you get a victory on the road it is a good one without a doubt," he noted.

"Cros-Lex has been very tough in our league. This is our first win against them since the BWAC formed."

In Friday's meeting, Almont took a narrow 3-2 lead after one quarter had ended.

The second quarter would see Almont establish some much-needed breathing room.

Aided by a 19-0 advantage there, Almont opened up a 22-2 cushion at the halftime break.

When the action resumed, Almont widened the gap even more.

Thanks to a 7-0 third quarter edge, Almont upped its lead to 29-2 at the 36-minute mark.

Cros-Lex bounced back with a 7-0 fourth quarter advantage, only to fall by a 29-9 count when the clock zeroed out for the last time.

Almont logged their 29-point total aided by a Steven Kunz 24-yard field goal; a Josh Walker 22-yard touchdown run (followed by a successful extra-point kick courtesy of Kunz); a Neal Zott 75-yard punt return for a touchdown; an Eric Mann 14-yard touchdown run; and a Steven Mack 21-yard touchdown run (followed by an accurate extra-point boot from Kunz).

Cros-Lex managed their nine-point output thanks to a Brad Seidl safety; and a Derek Sheridan three-yard touchdown run (followed by a successful extra-point kick courtesy of Jason Myers).

Brohl proved true on two of four pass plays for 31 yards as Almont's quarterback. He threw no interceptions along the way.

His successful tosses went to two different targets. Their ranks consisted of Paul Parzynski (one reception for 25 yards) and Zott (one catch for six yards).

The Almont ground attack chewed up 261 yards of territory on 38 totes.

Individually, Mann led Almont with 106 yards. It took him 16 carries to notch that output. He was backed by Walker (eight rushes for 74 yards), Mack (46 yards on eight carries), Mark Mersino (four rushes for 32 yards) and Steve McClure (one yard on one carry).

Almont returns to action this Friday when it entertains Blue Water Area Conference rival Imlay City. That clash is scheduled for 6:55 p.m.
