to roll into fairgrounds
Family Campers & RVer's will visit Imlay City for a
tenth straight year
September 12, 2007
IMLAY CITY — The campers are back, and so is the late-summer fun for about 400 camping and RV devotees expected to convene at the Eastern Michigan Fairgrounds Sept. 14-16.
The gathering marks the tenth year members of Family Campers & RVer's will camp out at the fairgrounds.
"This is our state campout," said Richmond resident John Williams, who along with wife Joyce, is coordinating the 2007 event. "We already have 155 units pre-registered, so it's going to be a big turnout."
The Williamses promise a host of activities to keep this year's campers occupied, including bingo on Friday night, an RV safety seminar, a craft class, games for children and families, door prizes, a puppet show and lots of fun around the campfire each night.
On Saturday at 2:15 p.m., the FCRV will crown its Michigan Teen Queen, who will go on to compete in the organization's national convention in Pennsylvania next July.
"That's a very big deal for the winner," said Joyce, adding that contestants will compete in the categories of talent, evening gown and poise. They will also be asked an "impromptu" question by the judges, all of whom will be Imlay City residents.
"We want the judges to be from here (Imlay City), to keep it impartial," said Joyce.
"The city really rolls out the red carpet for us," John said. "They make us feel very welcome, and we like to try to support the local businesses and merchants while we're here."
With that in mind, the FCRV sponsors a "ticket game" which encourages campers to shop and dine at establishments within the community.
The Williamses invite new campers to become part of the international FCRV program.
