Almont crushes Algonac
55-26 for league road win

ALMONT — Almont kept their perfect record intact, registering a 55-26 road triumph against Algonac in a Blue Water Area Conference varsity football matchup last Friday night.
With the decision, Almont goes to 3-0 and 2-0. Algonac slips to 2-1 and 1-1.
"We got it done up front tonight," Almont Coach Jeremy Ferman said. "That, combined with the return of quarterback Steve Brohl to our lineup, was the difference tonight," he noted.
In Friday's matchup, Almont opened up a 7-6 edge after one quarter was complete.
Almont followed it up with a 21-6 second quarter advantage, pushing its lead to 28-12 at the halftime break.
Quarter number three saw Algonac collect 14 points and Almont managed six.
That made it 34-26, Almont, at the 36-minute mark.
Almont then outscored Algonac 21-0 from that point on, closing out a 55-26 triumph.
The winning Almont side produced their 55-point output aided by a Josh Walker 20-yard touchdown run (followed by a successful extra-point kick courtesy of Steve Kunz); a Steve Mack six-yard touchdown tote (followed by an accurate extra-point boot from Kunz); a Steve Brohl to Neal Zott 73-yard touchdown pass (followed by a successful extra-point kick courtesy of Kunz); a Walker 12-yard touchdown run; a Mann 23-yard touchdown tote (followed by an accurate extra-point boot by Kunz); a Mann 40-yard touchdown run (followed by a successful extra-point kick courtesy of Kunz); and a Steve McClure three-yard touchdown run (followed by an accurate extra-point boot by Kunz).
Algonac logged their 26-point total thanks to a Kevin Suppon to Dennis Kunselman 12-yard pass play; a Suppon to Jordan Murray one-yard touchdown pass; a Suppon to Steve Wojciechowski 50-yard touchdown pass; a Suppon to Murray 14-yard touchdown pass (followed by a Suppon to Kunselman PAT pass).
For the evening, Brohl proved true on seven of 10 pass plays for 158 yards as Almont's quarterback. He threw zero interceptions en route to those numbers.
His successful tosses went to three different targets. Zott (four catches for 119 yards), Paul Parzynski (two receptions for 28 yards) and Steven Mack (one catch for 11 yards) formed that group.
The Almont ground game tacked on 381 yards, requiring 48 carries to generate that Mann (153 yards on 18 carries), Mark Mersino (eight rushes for 76 yards), Walker (60 yards on six carries), McClure (five rushes for 50 yards), Mack (43 yards on 10 carries) and Brohl (a one-yard loss on one rush) accounted for that output.
From a defensive standpoint, Jeff Simian paced Almont with eight solo stops. Mack and Parzynski (five solo stops each) along with Joe Tiseo (four solos) supported his performance.
The Almont defense also registered three takeaways. Steve LaMore, Walker and Parzynski (an interception apiece) had those.
Almont resumes its schedule this Friday when it goes to Cros-Lex for a Blue Water Area Conference encounter. That contest lists a 6:55 p.m. starting time.
