ALMONT — A 14-0 fourth quarter advantage lifted host Almont to a dramatic 21-17 victory over Yale in a Blue Water Area Conference varsity football battle last Thursday night.

With the outcome, Almont improves to 2-0 and 1-0. Yale drops to 1-1 and 0-1.

"The defense really stepped up for us late in the game," Almont Coach Jeremy Ferman said. "In the fourth quarter, we were able to get the momentum and rode it to the finish," he noted.

Almont produced their 21-point performance aided by an Eric Mann four-yard touchdown tote (followed by a successful extra-point kick courtesy of Steve Kunz); a Neal Zott one-yard touchdown run (followed by an accurate extra-point boot from Kunz); and a Steve Mack three-yard touchdown tote (followed by a successful extra-point kick courtesy of Kunz. Those tallies came with 1:55 showing on the second quarter clock; 7:51 before the fourth quarter was to end; and with 3:00 showing on the fourth quarter clock.

Yale notched their 17-point total thanks to an Aaron Zimmerman 26-yard field goal; a Zimmerman to Trevor Harris 19-yard touchdown pass collaboration (followed by an accurate extra-point boot courtesy of Zimmerman); and a Zimmerman to Adam Udicker 13-yard touchdown pass collaboration (followed by a successful extra-point kick courtesy of Zimmerman). Their scores came with 9:59 showing on the second quarter clock; 6:05 before halftime; and with 38 seconds showing on the third quarter clock.

Zott handled the quarterback assignment for Almont that evening. He finished zero of three with no interceptions.

The Almont ground attack managed 143 yards on 31 totes.

Individually, Mack (16 rushes for 46 yards) and Mann (45 yards on 10 totes) proved Almont's biggest threats. They were followed by Zott (four rushes for 30 yards) and Walker (22 yards on one tote).

From a defensive standpoint, Mack supplied Almont's best numbers. He was credited with 10 solo and two assisted stops. Joe Tiseo (nine solo and two assisted stops) and Walker (nine solos) exhibited a nose for the football as well.

The Almont defense claimed one takeaway. Zott (a fumble recovery) furnished that.

Almont returns to action this Friday when they travel to Algonac for a Blue Water Area Conference clash. The encounter lists a 6:55 p.m. starting time.
