It's back to school time around the area and the Capac/Yale Community Health Team of the Port Huron Hospital Foundation, the Community Foundation of St. Clair County, the Four County Community Foundation, the Port Huron Hospital Foundation and CSB Bank kicked off the season with a show of support during the second annnual 'Back to School' backpack giveaway on Friday.

Almost 550 stocked backpacks were handed out to local families to help start the school year off in style.

During these trying financial times, those who turned out to take advantage of the event were appreciative of the shot in the arm.

The show of community spirit on behalf of organizers and participants helps define the true meaning of 'community.' Everyone from senior citizens to parents of babies and toddlers benefited from car seat inspections and giveaways and pantry items from the local food bank.

Volunteers from the National Honor Society, CSB Bank and Medilodge of Yale made sure participants were well supplied with snacks and juice boxes and hundreds of kids and families walked away eager and ready to start the new school year.

In its second year, the 'Back to School' event continues to grow and help fill a need in the community. We appreciate the efforts of organizers, foundations, local businesses and volunteers for demonstrating that they care and for their efforts to lend a supportive hand to local families.
