ALMONT — Lauren Bone, who will be a junior at Almont High School this fall, overcame a six-shot deficit to win the Blue Water Junior Golf Association Tournament of Champions recently.
Lauren Bone, of Almont, watches her tee shot find the fairway during a BWAC encounter last season. Bone won the Blue Water Area Junior Golf Association Tournament of Champions recently.
The 18-hole event was contested at the Elks Golf Club in Port Huron.
After posting a 52 for the opening nine, Bone found her self six shots back of Sydney Brickey and two shots behind Taylor Clarke. It appeared that her prospects of bringing home a number one showing had disappeared.
However, the back-nine would see those golfers' fortunes reversed. There Bone rallied with a 45, Clarke shot a 51 and Brickey managed a 55.
When the final scores were added up, Bone had logged a pacesetting 97 total. Brickey and Clarke shared second place, each checking in with 101s.
Golf Country, who sponsors the Blue Water Junior Golf Association, also announced a $500 scholarship for Sportsmanship and Citizenship that went to Almont senior-to-be Stephen Osborn. He plans on pursuing his academic endeavors at Oakland University where he will study either pre-law or pre-medicine.
