Summer fun in store at Fair
Eastern Michigan Fair takes place August 7-12 at fairgrounds
August 01, 2007
IMLAY CITY — It's August, and one can almost detect the sweet aroma of cotton candy wafting through the air.
Conjuring up the sights, sounds and smells of the Eastern Michigan Fair is something area residents have done for decades.
The annual tradition attracts thousands to the fairgrounds on M-53 (Van Dyke), north of I-69, and this year should be no exception.
The 2007 Eastern Michigan Fair comes to Imlay City Aug. 7-11, with a mixture of entertainment sure to please young and old.
From Kids' Day activities on opening day (Tues., Aug. 7) to the ever-popular Demolition Derby on Saturday, Aug. 12, family fun will abound.
The fair midway opens at noon each day, and the $12 per-person admission includes unlimited rides -- all day long. Parking and admission to special attractions like Circus Pages (two performances daily), the petting zoo and all grandstand events is included with the price of admission.
On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, senior citizens enjoy discount prices -- just $8 per person before 5 p.m.
Each night at 7 p.m., the fair hosts a special event at the grandstands. On Tues., Aug. 7, all engines and eyes will be on the Tractor Pull, while the Eastern Michigan Bull Riders Championship gallops in on Wed., Aug. 8.
Thursday's (Aug. 9) action features the fast and furious daredevils of Superman Motocross. On Friday, Aug. 10, something new comes to the fairgrounds, when modified compact cars race across a dirt bike race track in the Auto Cross Bump & Run.
Arrive early on Saturday, Aug. 11 to see the mud fly during the traditional Demolition Derby.
For animal lovers, the 4-H Livestock Auction is set for 1 p.m. on Thursday, while visitors can stroll daily through the grounds to this year's prize chickens, rabbits and horses.
Or peruse the many 4-H projects on display in the indoor buildings, as well as vendors' items available at the Merchant building.
