IMLAY CITY — Firefighters responded to an alarm at the high school around 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 17.

Though the alert turned out to be a false alarm, Fire Chief Kip Reaves says it was "unusual" as far as false alarms go.

"There's really no such thing as a 'normal' false alarm but this one was different because the information we received indicated that the sprinklers were activated in two different zones in the building."

That was not the case, Reaves says, as a thorough search of the building turned up nothing out of the ordinary.

Reaves explains that false alarms at the high school building are usually prompted by faulty sensors in the system.

"Sometimes it will pick up dirt or dust or humidity and mistake that for a cloud of smoke," he says.
