IMLAY CITY —Somebody had a big thirst early Monday morning. So big that he couldn't wait for a local establishment to open its doors to purchase something to quench it.

Police Chief Arlan Winslow reported that around 4:15 a.m. a suspect executed a "smash and grab" at Len's Party Store. Shortly after, he exited the M-21 business with two bottles of unspecified booze under his arm.

The suspect, described as a Hispanic man wearing a white tank top and beige shorts, had attempted to enter the building through the rear door.

Failing to do so, he moved to the front of the store, where he hurled an object through the front door window to gain access.

Winslow said the store's security cameras captured the event as it unfolded for evidence and posterity.

He added that the suspect fled in a large SUV, accompanied by two others who did not take part in the break-in.

"We're just trying to find the vehicle," said Winslow. "We think that will lead us to the suspect."

Anyone with tips or information about the break-in is asked to call the Imlay City Police Department at 810-724-2345.
