TRI-CITY AREA — It won't be long now until the Spartans of Imlay City High School and the North Branch Broncos renew their gridiron rivalry once again.

That is because the Second Annual Alumni Football Game has been slated for Saturday, August 3rd at Imlay City's High School football field.

Imlay City will be looking to even the series at a game apiece after dropping last year's confrontation by a 21-18 score.

An estimated 2,500 fans watched the action unfold at Krepps Field in North Branch last year.

The event raised about $10,000 for each school's athletic programs.

Event organizers are hopeful that this year's battle should draw even bigger crowds.

It likely will benefit from the influx of people in town attending the Blueberry Festival.

That could add up to even more dollars raised for both school's athletic programs.

Rick Lee said Imlay City can still use a few more players to bolster its roster for the upcoming battle. Players who have been out of school for at least five years and have never signed a pro contract may suit up for the Spartans that evening.

The Spartans will be coached by longtime coaches Ken Day and John Topie, as well as player/coach and organizer Rick Lee.

If that sounds like something you would like to do, you are urged to call Rick at 810-724-6331 to find out information and receive a practice schedule.

Rod Soule, of Custom Video Services, is the publicity chair for the team and can be reached at 810-724-4444 to find out additional details about the game or how to obtain a DVD of last year's clash.
