CAPAC — Three Capac teams completed the grueling 77.2 mile North Country Trail Relay Race on Saturday, June 9.

Proceeds from the race go to benefit the Alzheimer's Association of West Michi-gan and the North Country Trail Association.

The 15-leg race, varying in lengths from 2.3 to 9.2 miles, is run on a point-to- point course which runs through lush meadows, oak and pine forests. The trail varies from steep hillsides and long vistas to slightly rolling terrain. Along the way participants will run past lakes, several rivers and streams.

A small part of the race was run on gravel and paved roads. The beauty and wildlife of the national forest awaited those who decided to take the challenge.

The relay started at Mesick Roadside Park, four miles west of the intersection of M-115 and M-37 near Mesick, Michigan. It followed the North Country Trail to the finish at the Bowman Bridge Campground which is located just West of Baldwin, Michigan.

Capac Team One (a squad which listed Jake Hoover, Josh Murphy, Brendan Pfeifer and Todd Lawrence among its ranks) was the first Tri-City lineup to cover the territory, pulling up fourth among Open Division entries. They stopped the watch at 9:12:27. That represented a pace of 7:10 per mile.

A second Capac team (Steve Sampson, Kyle Hulett, Glenn Hill, Jeremy Paluch, Chris Paluch and Mike Hoeft) pulled up 18th among 21 Open Division entries. They notched an 11:52:47 clocking, a clip of 9:14 per mile.

Iron Clad claimed division honors that day. They were timed in 8:32:40. That represented a pace of 6:38 per mile.

Capac Team Three (Lindsey Murphy, Lindsey Manning, Melissa Sawicki, Ashley Callewaert, Kylie Hill and Mackenzie Hackelberg), completed the list of Tri-City squads on hand, ranking 13th out of 29 Mixed Team lineups. They were timed in 11:33:07, a clip of 8:49 per mile.
