Community care helps lead to cure for cancer

Once again the community pulled together and proved its generosity by raising a record $87,000 for cancer research at the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life this past weekend.

Cancer is a disease that doesn't discriminate, and most of us cannot say that it hasn't affected our lives or the lives of people we love.

Since the Relay has moved to the Eastern Michigan Fairgrounds in Imlay City, participation levels are at an all-time high, and the funds raised have shattered all expectations.

The fair board also generously stepped in and donated the use of the fairgrounds for the event, which in its second year is becoming yet another success story for the fairgrounds in Imlay City.

Mother Nature, too, seemed to smile on the gathering, providing fair, sunny weather for families, friends and cancer survivors to celebrate life and remember those who've battled the disease.

Congratulations to the Imlay City area community, which stretches from Lapeer to Metamora, North Branch to Capac and beyond. Cohesiveness, caring and collectivity may one day equal a cure.
