DRYDEN — Dryden turned back Genesee, 7-4, in a Division 4 district baseball championship confrontation last Saturday at Genesee High School.
It marked the first district title for Dryden since the 1997 campaign.
With the outcome, Dryden (22-12) moves on to this Saturday's regional at Sterling Heights Parkway Christian. There the Cardinals will square off versus Royal Shrine in a game scheduled for 10 a.m.
Evan Crean topped Dryden's hitting attack with three singles. Trevor Crean (a pair of doubles), Steve DeCeuninck (a single and a double), Jeff Chisholm, Robert Ladner, Josh Pridemore and Derek Dunlop (two singles apiece) notched multiple-hit performances as well. The Cardinals also had Tom Ferrett and Justin Klein (a single each) reach the hitting column.
Trevor Crean (three innings, seven hits allowed, three strikeouts and one walk), and Ferrett (four innings, two hits allowed, five strikeouts and one walk) shared the pitching responsibilities for Dryden.
Earlier that day, Dryden advanced to the title clash with a 7-0 victory over Genesee Christian.
Ferrett (six innings, one hit allowed, eight strikeouts and three walks) and DeCeuninck (one inning and two hits allowed) shared the mound time for Dryden.
Hitting-wise, Ferrett (three singles) headlined for Dryden. The Cardinals also received hits courtesy of Trevor Crean (a single and a double), Evan Crean, Ladner and DeCeuninck (two singles apiece) along with Klein and Pridemore (a single each).
